Great Dane Association Of Ireland Breed Seminar

Great Dane Association Of Ireland Breed  Seminar, pupscan project seminar and AGM

Great Dane Association of Ireland Health and Education Day.
Sunday 9th July.

A Letter from the Chairman

The Great Dane Association of Ireland held its first Health and Education Day in Tullamore on Sunday 9th July.
In line with our ethos as a club to educate and promote responsible ownership within our membership, we decided to host the day to coincide with our AGM meeting to be held in the Afternoon.
There was wonderful attendance from both seasoned and new Great Dane owners who came along to learn, question and debate.

We Began with a fantastic presentation by one of our Association Founder Members, Breed Specialist and Ireland’s foremost authority on Great Danes Maria Gkinala.

As usual Maria’s personal knowledge, passion and experience coupled with her academic research made for an insightful and excellent presentation.
The 2-hour module left everyone the richer for the experience and we hope to follow up with the next installment sometime in the very near future.

The Great Dane Breed Education module was followed by a wonderful lunch for all attendees provided by our Committee and Mary O’ Donoghue (Treasurer) and Una Collison ( Hon Secretary) of the Midland Counties Society who kindly both donated and provided catering and Hostess facilities for the event.

The afternoon session kicked off at 1.15pm with a presentation from Pamela and Gordon from Pupscan Project https://www.facebook.com/PUPscan-Project-1194415293947254/ who traveled from the UK to provide a fantastic information session and insight for our members on the subject of Hip Dysplasia. The Information/presentation followed by a fantastic Q and A session was fantastic. Your generosity and time afforded to our Association in answering our questions were incredible. Thank you once again to Maria, Pamela, and Gordon for giving so freely of your time to share your wealth of knowledge.

A big Thank you to all members who attended and for all contributions in making this such a really wonderful day.
As if all of this wasn’t enough we still had our AGM to look forward to.
I am delighted to announce we had an excellently attended progressive AGM closing off a wonderful first year with our outgoing committee. A big Thank you to all of those members who contributed and joined with us in making Year one of GDAI such a huge success.

To our outgoing committee, a thank you for all your work efforts in giving the GDAI flight, it was a personal pleasure to work with you! Against a difficult background, we have built a strong membership in year one. We have also gained official recognition and affiliation with the IKC. Our Association has also held several successful fun and information events and also launched its own informative dynamic Website www.gdai.ie, wholly owned by the membership and open to all members to contribute to.
Sadly due to personal circumstances, some of our outgoing committee could not afford the time to commit to committee duties for the 2017-2018 term however we look forward to meeting and welcoming you at future events.

Finally, I would like to welcome our newly approved members and congratulate our new committee members elected for the year 2017-2018 http://gdai.ie/great-dane-association-of-ireland-committee-members/   I look forward to working with you all and to promote The Great Dane Breed and all its virtues within the wider general population. I thank you all most Sincerely for your support in my re-election as Chairman for 2017-2018. I look forward to serving you all again for the coming year.
Kind Regards
Derek Nevin
Chairman GDAI
